Athletic Testing – Step #1

Athletic Testing – Step # 1

The goal is to gather as much useful information as possible in the shortest amount of time possible.

The two most important aspects of testing are:

  • Gathering accurate data
  • Being able to reproduce these tests in the future

Without these our testing doesn’t work so please read exactly how to perform each test so that the numbers we get are the right ones.

Today you will only be doing 3 tests, this is just the first step in developing your physical profile.  In the future you will be asked to perform additional tests to fill in the gaps.

What you need

If you can bring someone along to help that would be great.

  1. Printed off the “Printable Testing Sheet” from the spread sheet that you received
  2. Tape measure (30 feet min)
  3. Phone – for videotaping purposes & stop watch

Test # 1: Broad Jump:

  • Start with your toes up against the start line with your feet straddling the tape measure
  • Start with your hands over head
  • Jump and land with your feet on either side of the tape measure
  • Record the distance from the furthest back heel to the start line (if they fall backwards do it again)

Test #2 – Triple Broad Jump:

  • Same set up as above.
  • Perform three consecutive jumps with minimal ground contact time between jumps.
  • You should try to bounce like your legs are springs
  • Record the distance from the furthest back heel to the start line (if they fall backwards do it again)

triple jump

Test # 3 – Lateral Jumps:

  • Start by standing only on your right leg with the inside of this foot at the start line
  • Land with both feet at the SAME time and TOGETHER (an inch or two of separation is okay)
  • Measure the distance from the outside of the right foot at landing
  • Reverse for left side
